Dealing With A Double Mini Roundabout

Image for Dealing With A Double Mini Roundabout

There are two different double mini roundabouts in Newbury in Wash Common and Shaw. The Wash Common Double Mini Roundabout is used on the Greenham Driving Test routes and can cause confusion.  This blog post and video should help learner and fully qualified drivers deal with them in a much simpler and safer way.

Turning Left Or Right

Going left or right are quite simple.  Approach with a left or right signal on and position accordingly to the double mini roundabout.  Keep that signal on till you have exited the double mini roundabout.  Sometimes you will only be using one roundabout when turning left or right and sometimes you would need to navigate both.  Treat the double mini roundabout as one entity for signalling but obviously give way at every Give Way line you encounter!

Going Ahead

Following the road ahead is not straight forwards.  Many people indicate dangerously by splitting the two mini roundabouts into two different roundabouts in terms of signalling.  For example turning left at the first and right at the second.  The issue with doing this is the cars on the left (who are giving way to you) will think you are turning left.  You then signal right and that car has now pulled out in front of you. This is obviously quite dangerous!

So to keep things simple and nice and safe simply DO NOT signal at the first one and position and signal accordingly for the second one.  At the second one it will be clear whether the exit you want is on the left or right.

Signalling To Exit

There is not enough time for your signal to be seen when you exit the double mini.  Concentrate on your steering and keeping the car in a non confusing position making it clear where you are heading through the car's body language

The video explains all of this.  If you have any questions please leave in the comments on our You Tube Channel for the video.
